Electrical Engineer

Inverclyde

Dayshift - up to £55k

NT Engineering & Manufacturing are proud to be supporting our Manufacturing client in their search for an Electrical Engineer to join the Facilities Engineering team at their manufacturing facility in Inverclyde.

This is not a hands-on electrician role. This is an engineering position - you will be the technical authority for the site’s electrical infrastructure, a system owner who defines what maintenance is required, manages capital projects end to end, and ensures the site remains safe, compliant and operating to the highest standards. You’ll be issued permits, manage contractors and work closely with the Facilities Engineering Manager and your fellow site Electrical Engineer.

If you’re an electrical engineer who wants genuine system ownership, a Mon–Fri day shift, and a company that will invest in your development — including funding your High Voltage Authorised Person qualification if you don’t already hold it — this is worth a conversation.

What you'll be doing

* Acting as system owner for the site’s electrical infrastructure — HV and LV distribution, switchgear, transformers and associated plant

* Issuing and managing Permits to Work, including live working and limitation of access permits

* Defining and overseeing planned and reactive maintenance activities on electrical plant and equipment

* Project managing electrical capital works — scoping requirements, preparing RFQs, reviewing tender returns and managing contractors through to commissioning

* Supporting and maintaining reliability of automation and control systems, including liaising with external vendors and ensuring disaster recovery capability

* Overseeing life safety systems including fire detection, controls, UPS and backup power generation

* Ensuring compliance with IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition), HSE guidance and all relevant legislation

* Fault finding on electrical plant and equipment as required

* Keeping all relevant documentation current and accurate

Experience required:

* Degree, HND or HNC in an electrical discipline, combined with demonstrable electrical engineering or maintenance experience

* Sound understanding of electrical distribution systems

* Knowledge of building services / facilities electrical plant — UPS, fire detection, backup generation, HVAC controls

* IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition BS7671

* Experience with Permit to Work systems

* Ability to read electrical drawings and fault find on electrical plant

* Understanding of relevant electrical legislation and statutory requirements

* Strong communication skills and the ability to work with engineers, managers and contractors at all levels

Advantageous (training will be provided where gaps exist)

* High Voltage Authorised Person — C&G 6037 HV Systems Operations (funded training available for the right candidate)

* PLC and controls knowledge or experience

* Project management experience

* Experience in a manufacturing, semiconductor, pharmaceutical or similarly complex operational environment

Why this role?

* Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:00 — no shift work, no rotating rota

* Genuine system ownership and engineering responsibility from day one

* Funded training and development — including HV Authorised Person qualification where required

* Working in a high-technology, precision manufacturing environment that’s genuinely interesting

Where to Advertise Semiconductor Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise semiconductor jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards, academic channels and community routes that actually reach IC, fab and EDA talent. The candidate pool is one of the smallest and most specialised in any engineering discipline — spanning IC design engineers, process engineers, fab technicians, EDA tool developers, compound semiconductor physicists and power electronics specialists. General job boards are largely ineffective for semiconductor hiring. The community is tight-knit, highly academic in its roots and concentrated around a small number of university groups, fab facilities and design centres. Specialist boards, academic channels and direct community engagement are the primary sourcing strategies that work. This guide, published by SemiconductorJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise semiconductor roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.
