Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team based at Almelo. This role involves developing mechanical designs, ensuring safety and compliance, managing projects, and collaborating with suppliers. You will with opportunities for hybrid working available.

What you’ll do: 

In this role, you will be responsible for:

Conceptual and Basic Design

Develop and deliver conceptual designs and detailed specifications, focusing on mechanical systems and equipment.
Lead the creation of basic design packages for Core Plant Technology (CPT).
Safety and Compliance

Promote a proactive safety culture by conducting safety analyses and integrating lessons from the nuclear industry into advanced plant designs.
Ensure all designs comply with industry best practices and safety standards.
Project Management

Plan and manage the mechanical design aspects of projects, contributing to feasibility studies, option evaluations, and the selection of the best available technologies.
Supplier Collaboration

Provide direction and oversight to suppliers during the detailed design phase to ensure alignment with project requirements and industry standards.
Technology Leadership

Define and maintain mechanical design expertise within the Core Plant Technology (CPT) framework.
Leverage best practices and cutting-edge technology to enhance safety and innovation.
Standards and Compliance

Establish, control, and maintain group reference designs and safety case standards, including those for UF6 enrichment, support systems, and deconversion processes.
Ensure alignment with Urenco Technology Development (UTD) activities.
Post-Implementation Reviews

Lead post-implementation reviews of mechanical systems, incorporating feedback related to safety, licensing compliance, operational efficiency, and asset management into the design process.

To succeed, you’ll need to bring:

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Preferred: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience:

Proven Expertise: Demonstrated success in creating conceptual and basic designs for mechanical components, equipment, and systems within complex process facilities.
Leadership: Extensive experience in plant and component design at a senior level.
Problem-Solving: Strong ability to apply innovative solutions based on past experience to overcome challenges and foster organisational growth.
Industry Knowledge: Specialised mechanical design expertise in the nuclear or process industries.
