CAD Draughtsperson

Location: Garelochhead, Scotland or Gosport, England

The CAD Draughtsperson role: We are looking to appoint a CAD Draughtsperson on a 2-year FTC (fixed term contract) to produce and update DSEAR technical drawings in CAD format for an OPA project, and provide local drawing support to our UK OFDs (Oil Fuel Depots) translating designs into detailed plans and specifications, and to provide service to some other areas of Defence under an SLA.

This newly created role is based at Garelochhead, Helensburgh, Scotland, or at Gosport, Hampshire, England, with a Hybrid working model available.

Working within our HSSEQ team, but working remotely from other team members, in a number of both face-to-face teams and virtual teams, will necessitate the post holder being a self-starter, reliant, and able to communicate effectively.

This role requires the post holder to build and maintain strong, positive, and credible working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, with particular emphasis with Air Command, Fuel Depot Managers, Operations & Engineering functions. In addition to external bodies, such as the DIO (Defence Infrastructure Organisation).

The ability to liaise with people of differing levels both externally ranging from the Competent Authority (HSE/EA/SEPA) to stakeholders in Defence, and internally to various stakeholders at sites and management teams, up to and including the Executive Team.

Due to the assets being managed covering sites across the UK. It necessitates a moderate amount of travel, with the need to spend nights away from home in order to carry out the duties required. Therefore a full (preferably clean) driving licence is essential for the successful candidate.

CAD Draughtsperson Responsibilities:

Include, but are not limited to:

  • Generate technical drawings, particularly from DSEAR assessments and Hazardous Area Classification assessments for key stakeholders and customers to compliant industry standards.

  • Interpret technical specifications and translate them into visual representations, to adhere to both industry and MOD standards and regulations.

  • Modify existing drawings as needed to meet project requirements.

  • Review and analyse drawings for errors or inconsistencies.

  • Maintain organised files and documentation of all drawings.

  • Ensure all designs are documented and meet the required standards and codes.

  • Coordinate with project teams and managers to ensure timely completion of technical drawings.

  • Conduct quality checks on drawings to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Work collaboratively with project teams and engineers to ensure that all specifications and designs adhere to industry standards.

  • Provide regular reports on progress and performance against plan, to both internal and external stakeholders to facilitate learning and continual improvement.

    The CAD Draughtsperson candidate: You’ll need to be an experienced CAD Draughtsperson, preferably with a minimum of 5 years proven experience, with an extensive working knowledge of CAD software such in Auto-Cad, and be able to prepare technical drawings efficiently, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy in drafting.

    You should have a solid understanding of engineering, and preferably hold a relevant qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Process Engineering, or a similar engineering discipline.

    CAD Draughtsperson Required Knowledge / Skills:

  • Mathematical skills are essential.

  • Relevant certification in CAD software or drafting techniques (eg City & Guilds Computer Aided Design (7689)

  • Ability to analyse design sketches and specifications to create technical drawings.

  • Communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with engineers and other professionals.

  • Time management skills to work with multiple projects and competing deadlines.

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and industry standards

  • Ability to interpret and work with complex technical drawings and specifications.

  • Familiarity with 3D modelling

  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.

  • Familiar with Microsoft Office (word, excel, etc.)

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under tight deadlines
