Brownlee Cale are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join our client's engineering team, working on a variety of civils projects.
You will play a key role in ensuring designs meet client specifications, industry regulations, and environmental standards, from concept through to commissioning support.
Key Responsibilities


  • Develop electrical design deliverables including single-line diagrams, cable schedules, lighting layouts, control panel designs, and power distribution systems.

  • Carry out load calculations, equipment sizing, and protective device coordination.

  • Prepare and review technical specifications, datasheets, and procurement documentation.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, mechanical, and process engineers.

  • Provide input into project planning, cost estimation, and risk assessments.

  • Ensure designs comply with applicable standards such as BS7671, IEC, and client-specific specifications.

  • Support site installation, testing, and commissioning activities as required.

  • Interface with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure design intent is achieved.

  • Support junior engineers

Qualifications and Experience
Essential:


  • Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Proven experience in electrical design within sectors such as water or utilities.

  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Amtech, or ETAP.

  • Understanding of UK electrical regulations (e.g. IET Wiring Regulations, 18th Edition).

  • Familiarity with water industry frameworks and standards (e.g. WIMES).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable:


  • Chartered or working towards Chartership (IET or similar).

  • Experience with PLC/SCADA system integration.

  • Knowledge of ATEX requirements and hazardous area classification.

  • Experience using BIM or Revit MEP is an advantage.
