About Us

Carbometrics is a specialist chemistry company based in Bristol, UK. Our core competency is the design, synthesis, and derivatisation of highly selective and robust carbohydrate-binding molecules. Our mission is to help people with diabetes to live more normal and longer lives. We are using our proprietary Biomimetic Glucose Binding Molecules (GBM) to develop a new glucose sensor chemistry that will enable market-leading Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGM).

About the role

The successful candidate will work as part of a small engineering team supporting the research and development of Carbometrics technology. We are looking for someone to lead the Manufacturing and Process Development aspects of our Protype Wearable Devices, used to demonstrate the company’s core technology.

The candidate should be hands-on and able to work independently, adaptable to ideas and change, resourceful and self-motivated.

The role is based within our highly innovative team in Bristol’s only dedicated scientific incubator: Science Creates (St Phillips Incubator) (see Science Creates - A Home for Deep Tech in Bristol for more details). This is a great opportunity for an experienced Manufacturing Process Engineer to join a fast-growing MedTech company at the forefront of wearable healthcare innovation. You’ll play a key role in developing life-changing technology and be part of a collaborative team making a real difference to patient outcomes.

Roles and Responsibilities

Core:

• Develop and optimise tools and processes from prototype through to production scale
• Conduct DFM and PFMEAs reviews
• Evaluate manufacturing effectiveness and identify improvements in processes, equipment, and product quality
• Support supplier development, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration Lead specification, design, and commissioning of novel process equipment and unit operations.
• Collaborate with engineering partners to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions on time and within budget.
• Effectively communicate progress and blockers to the company without getting bogged down in technobabble
• Collaborate with internal cross functional teams
• Maintain clear and thorough documentation across development and throughout testing processes
• Suggest & implement best practice processes, equipment set up and machines being led by project time plan and technical advantages and/or limitations

Additional:

• Maintain an excellent safety culture by timely reporting of all safety incidents and learning events
• Assist the team to ensure procedures are developed and kept up to date
• Build strong, positive working relationships with team members
• Actively contribute to continuous improvement by developing ideas to improve personnel safety, environmental aspects and process improvement.
• Essential Skills:
• Knowledge of Manufacturing Process Development methods
• Knowledge of Nordson, and additional dispensing equipment suppliers. Ability to define dispensing technique based on product requirements.
• Strong understanding of dispensing parameter development, equipment troubleshooting, and operation requirements.
• Support prototype builds (machine operation).
• Excellent numeracy, literacy, and computer skills.
• Proficiency in key MS Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
• Ability to work independently with good time management.

Experience

Essential:

• Experience with SMT machines, pick and place assembly equipment processes and tooling requirements
• Background in a relevant manufacturing industry.
• Experience of industrial manufacturing and assembly techniques and process control strategies
• Experience in Process development
• Experience in quality control methods.
• Proficient in CAD

Desirable

• Six Sigma Green Belt preferred
• Experience working under a Quality Management System e.g. ISO9001, ISO13485
• Experience with optical sensing systems

Education and Qualification

• Relevant HNC/HND/Degree in Engineering e.g. Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electronics
• Interested Candidates without a formal Degree but significant relevant experience should still apply.
• 5+ years in Process Development
• To qualify for this position the candidate will need to be authorised to live and work in the UK
