We’re looking for a Senior Process Engineer. Based at our UTD office in Almelo, Netherlands as a Member of a Design Team you’ll deliver to multiple customers (Urenco wide) the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) including technical feasibility and best available technology (BAT) studies, you will also be acting as Process lead engineer in delivery of Conceptual and Basic Design of new build or modifications of (production) facilities; providing directions and oversight regarding design development during the execution phase to third party engineering service providers.

What you’ll do:

Safety Leadership & Culture

Actively promote a proactive safety culture and perform analysis to foster a "learning from experience" mindset.
Ensure advanced plant designs incorporate safety features aligned with best industrial practices and lessons learned from the (nuclear) sector.
Process Design & Development

Lead the design, development, and implementation of process engineering solutions for new and existing systems during the conceptual and basic design phases.
Provide direction and oversight on design development during the execution phase, working closely with third parties.
Project & Technical Oversight

Provide technical oversight for plant modification projects, including process hazard analyses and contributions to the plant safety case.
Ensure all engineering activities are compliant with regulatory, safety, and environmental standards.
Support cross-functional teams in delivering major capital projects.
Subject Matter Expertise & Operational Support

Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in process engineering, assisting operational teams with troubleshooting and performance optimisation.
Conduct process simulations, modelling, and technical calculations to inform engineering decisions.
Collaboration & Documentation

Collaborate with external contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies where required.
Prepare and review technical documentation including process flow diagrams (PFDs), specifications, and commissioning procedures.
Mentorship & Development

Mentor junior engineers and actively support professional development within the engineering team.
What do you need to thrive in this role?

Essential:

Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
Chartered Engineer status or working toward chartership.
Significant experience in a process engineering role, ideally within a highly regulated environment (e.g., nuclear, chemical, or pharmaceutical).
Strong knowledge of process safety principles and regulatory frameworks (e.g., COMAH, DSEAR, HAZOP).
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Proven track record of leading engineering projects or plant improvements.
Desirable:

Experience in nuclear operations or fuel cycle technologies.
Familiarity with safety case development and regulatory engagement.
Working knowledge of process simulation software (e.g., Aspen, HYSYS, MATLAB).
