Job Title: Production Process Engineer
Department: Manufacturing
Reports To: Production Manager : Bordon Plant
Summary
My client is the World’s No.1 manufacturer of DC- DC converters and a leading producer of AC/DC power supplies and wound magnetic products. Their customers are mainly focused on the computing, communications, industrial and medical markets. They design and manufacture the industry’s broadest offering of standard DC-DC products and are a market-leading designer of custom solutions.
Production Process Engineer
Main Functions of the Job
The Production Process Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimising manufacturing processes within an electronics production environment. The role ensures that production activities are efficient, repeatable, and aligned with quality standards. A key focus is placed on process documentation, standardisation, and continuous improvement through Lean Manufacturing methodologies. The engineer will also support the introduction of new products and process changes, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimise manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and ensure product quality.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation including process flows, standard operating procedures, work instructions, and control plans.
  • Conduct time and motion studies and implement changes to streamline workflow and reduce non-value-added activities.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing tools such as 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, and root cause analysis (RCA) to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate existing production lines and propose enhancements in layout, tooling, and automation to improve throughput and ergonomics.
  • Collaborate with design, quality, and production teams during New Product Introduction (NPI) to ensure smooth process handover and manufacturability.
  • Support and lead process validation activities including PFMEA, capability studies, and first article inspections.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve process-related issues that impact yield, quality, or efficiency.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for processes and use data to support decision-making and improvement projects.
  • Ensure that all process changes are properly documented, validated, and communicated to relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the training of production staff in new processes or updated work instructions.
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations and industry standards (e.g. ISO 9001, IPC).
    Qualifications
  • Degree or HND/HNC in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
  • Additional training or certification in Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma is highly desirable.
    Experience/Competence
    The ideal candidate will have;
  • 5+ years of experience in a production or manufacturing engineering role, ideally in the electronics or electromechanical industry.
  • Proven experience in developing and maintaining technical documentation for manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Lean tools and methodologies, including practical implementation experience.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for process routing, BOMs, and production planning.
  • Experience supporting or leading NPI transitions into production.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to drive decisions.
  • Working knowledge of quality and regulatory standards (e.g. ISO 9001, IPC standards, ESD practices)

Why Semiconductor Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

Semiconductors power everything from smartphones to advanced computing to automotive systems. The UK semiconductor industry is expanding amid renewed global interest in chip sovereignty and lithography innovation. But the demands on professionals in semiconductor roles are shifting too. Today, semiconductor careers are no longer limited to clean-room engineers or circuit layout designers. Because chips affect data privacy, critical infrastructure, supply security and performance constraints, careers in this sphere are becoming deeply multidisciplinary. Knowledge in law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design is increasingly relevant to semiconductor engineering. In this article, we’ll explore why semiconductor careers in the UK are becoming more multidisciplinary, how those allied fields intersect with semiconductor work, and what job-seekers & employers can do to adapt.

Semiconductor Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Semiconductor Department

The semiconductor industry underpins nearly all modern electronics—from smartphones and servers to sensors, automotive control systems, artificial intelligence accelerators, and more. In the UK it plays a growing role in chip design, MEMS, optoelectronics, and foundry services. Building performant, reliable, competitive semiconductor products requires tightly coordinated teams that span design, fabrication, testing, packaging, yield engineering, reliability, verification, quality, and supply chain. If you’re applying for semiconductor roles via SemiconductorJobs.co.uk or building a semiconductor team, this guide will help you understand the typical roles, how they collaborate across the product lifecycle, what skills UK employers expect, salary expectations, common challenges, and how to structure teams to succeed.

Why the UK Could Be the World’s Next Semiconductor Jobs Hub

Semiconductors are the tiny silicon devices that power everything from smartphones and computers to electric vehicles, medical equipment, and satellites. As the global economy becomes ever more digital and electrified, demand for semiconductors continues to grow at pace. This translates directly into a rising need for skilled professionals across design, research and development, manufacturing, testing, and supply chain roles. The United Kingdom has a growing semiconductor ecosystem. While the country’s market is smaller than in the United States, EU, or parts of Asia, the UK holds strengths in chip design, intellectual property, research excellence, and advanced packaging. With growing government support, strong universities, and nascent manufacturing infrastructure, the UK is well-positioned to become a global semiconductor jobs hub. This article explores the current landscape, the UK's unique advantages, key job roles, challenges ahead, and what needs to happen for the UK to lead in semiconductor careers.
