You’ll be involved in improving existing processes, supporting the introduction of new equipment or methods, and ensuring changes are implemented safely, effectively and in line with the company’s quality systems.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on your background, your responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

  • Supporting the validation and improvement of new and existing manufacturing processes and equipment

  • Carrying out investigative studies and using data to drive process and quality improvements

  • Applying lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles where appropriate

  • Producing clear technical reports, work instructions and supporting documentation for production teams

  • Working within the company’s Quality Management System and change control processes

  • Identifying opportunities for new technologies, machinery, materials or methods

  • Collaborating closely with engineering, quality, production, purchasing and NPD teams

  • Supporting or leading engineering projects, including milestones, stakeholder communication and delivery tracking

  • Assisting with business cases, specification and commissioning of capital equipment

  • Monitoring manufacturing performance and analysing data to support improvement activity

  • Communicating process changes clearly and effectively across the business

    About You

We’re keen to speak with engineers from a variety of manufacturing backgrounds. You may already have experience in a similar role or be looking to take the next step in your engineering career.

    Helpful experience and attributes include:

  • A qualification such as a Degree, HND or HNC in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Production Engineering (or similar)

  • Experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment

  • An interest in process improvement, lean manufacturing or continuous improvement techniques

  • Some exposure to project-based engineering work

  • Understanding of CAD / CAM systems

  • Experience analysing manufacturing data (for example using tools such as Minitab)

  • A methodical, logical approach with strong attention to detail

  • Confidence working autonomously as well as part of a team

  • Clear communication skills and the ability to influence and gain buy-in from others

Most importantly, you’ll be curious, proactive and motivated to make things better.

    What’s on Offer

  • A stable, long-term role within a respected Sheffield manufacturer

  • Exposure to a wide range of processes, projects and technologies

  • Support and development for engineers looking to broaden their skill set

  • Competitive salary and benefits package

What Hiring Managers Look for First in Semiconductor Job Applications (UK Guide)

The semiconductor industry is fast-moving, highly technical and critically important to modern technology. Whether you’re targeting roles in device design, process engineering, yield improvement, test and validation, equipment engineering, reliability, failure analysis or fab operations, hiring managers are selective and deliberate in how they review applications. Most candidates still make the same mistake: they throw generic skill lists and duty statements at recruiters and hope it sticks. In reality, hiring managers make an early call — often within the first 10–20 seconds — based on a few key signals that tell them whether you’re a credible, relevant, impactful candidate. This article breaks down exactly what hiring managers look for first in semiconductor job applications — how they scan your CV, portfolio and cover letter, what makes them read deeper, and what causes strong candidates to be passed over in favour of others.

The Skills Gap in Semiconductor Jobs: What Universities Aren’t Teaching

The semiconductor industry lies at the heart of modern technology. From smartphones and data centres to autonomous vehicles, medical devices and defence systems, semiconductors power the digital age. The UK is investing heavily in semiconductor research, fabrication and talent development as part of its industrial strategy — yet employers continue to report a persistent problem: Many graduates are not job-ready for semiconductor roles. Despite strong academic programmes in engineering, physics and materials science, there remains a tangible skills gap between what universities teach and what semiconductor employers actually need. This article explores that gap in depth: what universities do well, where there are consistent shortfalls, why the divide persists, what employers genuinely want, and how jobseekers can bridge the gap to build successful careers in the semiconductor sector.

Semiconductor Jobs for Career Switchers in Their 30s, 40s & 50s (UK Reality Check)

Semiconductors sit behind almost everything: smartphones, EVs, medical devices, aerospace systems, telecoms networks, cloud data centres & the AI boom. In the UK, the semiconductor ecosystem spans chip design, IP, photonics, compound semiconductors, testing, packaging, equipment, supply chain & R&D. That breadth creates real opportunities for career switchers in their 30s, 40s & 50s, especially if you target roles where experience, process discipline & delivery skills matter as much as deep device physics. This article gives you a UK reality check: what semiconductor jobs actually look like, which roles are realistic for career switchers, what skills employers value, how long retraining tends to take & whether age is a barrier.
