Process Engineer

We are seeking a talented Process Engineer to join our dynamic team of four multidisciplinary engineers, providing essential manufacturing support and driving New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts to support the projected growth of the site. As part of this role, you will contribute to the company’s rebranding initiatives during our transition from PerkinElmer to Revvity.

You will be assigned a primary instrument or group of products, taking ownership of understanding their design, build, test requirements, process flow, and systems. Working closely with R&D divisions (potentially on a global scale) and key business stakeholders, you will play a crucial role in transforming conceptual designs into cost-effective, high-quality manufacturing outputs. Once products are handed over to operations, you will provide ongoing engineering stewardship to ensure their continued success.

This position calls for a creative and analytical engineer with a solid understanding of manufacturing processes and proficiency in CAD. The ideal candidate will be proactive, collaborative, and capable of leading multifunctional project teams, both internally and externally, including consultants and suppliers, to drive the success of projects and products.

Your internal title will be Validation Engineer.

Responsibilities

Manufacturing Support:

  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing operations teams, R&D, and other departments to ensure ownership of facility operations and the successful implementation of changes.
  • Work with the engineering and manufacturing teams to translate product requirements into functional specifications.
  • Build and evaluate prototypes to ensure design feasibility and product performance.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead a project team of engineers, ensuring clear communication and coordination within the team.
  • Plan and estimate engineering tasks, ensuring alignment with overall project timelines and goals.
  • Develop and execute a risk management plan, identifying potential risks and creating mitigation strategies.
  • Deliver on tasks, delegate responsibilities, and monitor progress to ensure timely completion.
  • Ensure Mechanical Engineering deliverables are met and maintain oversight of the project’s progress.
  • Direct external consultants and suppliers, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Provide comprehensive project plans, including milestones, resources, activities, quality controls, and health and safety criteria. Conduct business risk planning and mitigation where applicable.
  • Liaise with the New Product Design team on DFM (DfX), testing and prototyping of concept designs, new product development stage gates, and manufacturing timelines. Develop a clear feedback process to ensure manufacturing concerns are recorded through the ECN process.

Process:

  • Assess technical risks and formulate effective risk management strategies, including analysis and evaluation programs to mitigate those risks.

Product Development:

  • Contribute to the product development process, from initial analysis and design to testing, implementation, and documentation.
  • Conduct design reviews and respond to feedback from the project team to refine and improve designs.
  • Produce the required level of documentation to support product development and testing activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement of mechanical engineering processes, promoting efficiency and innovation across the team.

Leadership:

  • Demonstrable experience in leading small teams and managing external consultants.
  • Ability to plan projects, allocate tasks, and monitor progress to meet deadlines.
  • Formal leadership or management training with the ability to guide teams effectively.

General:

  • Strong communication skills to foster successful interactions with team leaders, fellow engineers, and management.
  • Self-motivated with a drive to stay updated on new technologies, market, and industry trends.
  • Proactive approach to identifying and resolving problems, maintaining focus on commercial objectives and prioritizing work effectively.
  • Willingness to work within structured development programs and take ownership of product delivery.
  • Ability to critically assess engineering practices and define improvements to departmental procedures.
  • A scientific background or interest in optical and chemical systems.
  • Some business knowledge of the chemical analysis or related market sectors.

Travel:

  • Both domestic and international travel is required for this role.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BSc, MSc, or equivalent degree in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong grounding in Chemistry and Physics.

Preferred:

  • BSc, MSc, or equivalent degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering.
  • An advanced understanding of optical systems.
  • Knowledge and practical application of Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in an engineering role.
  • Experience in New Product Introduction (NPI) and volume manufacturing of technical assemblies.
  • Results-driven with a history of meeting commitments and stretch goals.
  • Detail-oriented with a passion for continuous improvement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to organise and execute complex tasks.
  • Excellent organizational, data collection, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, professional environment.
  • Proven problem-solving ability, demonstrating knowledge of methodologies like the 5 Whys, Fishbone diagram, Cause and Effect analysis, etc.

Semiconductor Jobs for Career Switchers in Their 30s, 40s & 50s (UK Reality Check)

Semiconductors sit behind almost everything: smartphones, EVs, medical devices, aerospace systems, telecoms networks, cloud data centres & the AI boom. In the UK, the semiconductor ecosystem spans chip design, IP, photonics, compound semiconductors, testing, packaging, equipment, supply chain & R&D. That breadth creates real opportunities for career switchers in their 30s, 40s & 50s, especially if you target roles where experience, process discipline & delivery skills matter as much as deep device physics. This article gives you a UK reality check: what semiconductor jobs actually look like, which roles are realistic for career switchers, what skills employers value, how long retraining tends to take & whether age is a barrier.

How to Write a Semiconductor Job Ad That Attracts the Right People

Semiconductors sit at the heart of modern technology. From consumer electronics and automotive systems to AI, defence, telecoms and advanced manufacturing, semiconductor professionals play a critical role in designing, fabricating and testing the components that power the global economy. Yet many employers struggle to attract the right candidates. Semiconductor job adverts often receive either very few applications or a high volume of unsuitable ones. Experienced engineers and scientists frequently ignore adverts that feel vague, generic or disconnected from the realities of semiconductor development and manufacturing. In most cases, the issue is not a shortage of talent — it is the clarity and quality of the job advert. Semiconductor professionals are detail-oriented, process-driven and highly selective. A poorly written job ad signals weak technical understanding and unclear expectations. A well-written one signals credibility, precision and long-term intent. This guide explains how to write a semiconductor job ad that attracts the right people, improves applicant quality and strengthens your employer brand.

Maths for Semiconductor Jobs: The Only Topics You Actually Need (& How to Learn Them)

If you are aiming for semiconductor jobs in the UK it is easy to assume you need a PhD level maths toolkit. In practice most roles do not. Whether you are targeting device engineering, process engineering, yield engineering, product engineering, test, reliability, RF, analogue, digital design, EDA, packaging or applications engineering, the maths you actually use clusters into a few workhorse areas. This guide strips it back to the topics that genuinely help you get hired & perform well on the job: Exponents, logs & “physics curves” (Arrhenius style behaviour, subthreshold, leakage) Calculus in plain English (rates, gradients, differential equations intuition) Device electrostatics & transport basics (Poisson equation intuition, drift & diffusion) Complex numbers for AC & RF (impedance, phasors, frequency response) Signals maths (Fourier intuition, bandwidth, noise density) Probability & statistics for manufacturing (SPC, DOE, yield models, reliability basics) Basic optimisation habits (fitting models, tuning trade-offs, making decisions with data) You will also get a 6 week plan, portfolio projects & a resources section you can follow without getting pulled into unnecessary theory.
