A growing deep-tech company at the forefront of next-generation life science instrumentation is seeking a Lead Electronics Engineer to drive the development of highly sensitive electronic systems used in cutting-edge analytical platforms.
This is an opportunity to join a multidisciplinary engineering team developing advanced sensing technology that is helping transform biological research, diagnostics and drug discovery. You'll play a key role in shaping the electronics architecture of complex scientific instruments while leading a team of talented engineers through the full product development lifecycle.
The Role
As Lead Electronics Engineer, you will lead and mentor a team of highly skilled engineers responsible for developing precision electronic systems that sit at the heart of advanced sensing and measurement platforms. You'll remain hands-on technically while providing leadership across electronics development, integration, testing and product delivery.
Working closely with software, mechanical, systems and scientific teams, you will help bring next-generation instrumentation products from concept through to commercialisation.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and develop a team of electronics engineers working on advanced instrumentation platforms.
* Design and develop low-noise analogue electronics and precision measurement systems.
* Drive PCB architecture, design reviews and system-level electronics decisions.
* Integrate electronic, mechanical and software subsystems into complete instrument solutions.
* Optimise circuit layouts, grounding strategies, shielding and noise mitigation techniques.
* Develop and implement signal processing approaches to maximise signal-to-noise performance.
* Support laboratory automation through the development of electronic and electromechanical systems.
* Lead hardware debugging, verification, validation and root-cause investigations.
* Perform circuit simulation and modelling activities using SPICE and related tools.
* Define requirements, specifications, test methodologies and technical documentation.
* Collaborate with external partners on PCB, semiconductor and manufacturing activities.
* Contribute to technology roadmaps and future product development initiatives.
About You
You will be an experienced electronics engineer with a strong background in precision instrumentation, sensing technologies or high-performance electronic systems. Equally comfortable leading teams and solving complex technical challenges, you'll thrive in a fast-paced R&D environment where innovation and collaboration are key.
Essential Experience
* Degree, MSc or PhD in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
* Strong expertise in analogue electronics and low-noise instrumentation design.
* Experience developing small-signal measurement systems and precision sensing electronics.
* Proven PCB design experience using tools such as Altium, Cadence, Allegro or similar.
* Strong understanding of signal integrity, grounding, shielding, EMC and noise reduction techniques.
* Experience characterising and debugging amplifiers, ADCs, DACs, power supplies and digital interfaces.
* Hands-on experience with laboratory test equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers and logic analysers.
* Experience taking products from concept through design, prototyping, testing and system integration.
* Programming capability in C, C++ and/or Python for hardware development and test automation.
* Previous experience leading projects, mentoring engineers or managing technical teams.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Experience
* Mixed-signal or analogue ASIC development.
* Embedded systems and microcontroller design.
* Sensor development and signal processing.
* Medical devices, life sciences instrumentation or laboratory equipment.
* High-precision measurement and data acquisition systems.
