Our client is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality design services while ensuring that projects are completed within the agreed timescales and budgets. You will collaborate closely with multiple disciplines, manage design outputs, and ensure that designs adhere to all health and safety, regulatory, and environmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Report directly to the Principal Engineer, Design Managers, Technical Discipline Lead, and Regional Discipline Lead.
Develop cost-effective design layouts that meet specification requirements and can be constructed and commissioned efficiently.
Produce and review all design deliverables, including specifications, schedules, drawings, and calculations.
Collaborate with other disciplines for the development of site/plant 3D models.
Ensure standard designs and practices are used wherever possible.
Deliver the design stage outputs of each project within the agreed timescale and budget.
Coordinate design outputs across all technical disciplines.
Maintain competitiveness and provide estimates and feedback to the Proposals Department.
Build working relationships with construction staff and supply chain representatives to enhance buildability and efficiency in design outputs.
Follow procedures and processes that promote the ongoing development of the department.
Assist in developing, monitoring, and reviewing efficient procedures for smooth department operations.
Ensure designs are coordinated with all internal and external disciplines to benefit the contract as a whole.
Maintain comprehensive records and files throughout the contract lifecycle.
Ensure customer satisfaction by contributing to a customer-centric culture.
Maintain a personal development plan for continuous professional growth.
Assist in supervising and developing staff within the team.
Contribute to maintaining a safe working environment for all team members.
Minimize waste across all departmental activities.
Ensure all designs consider environmental issues.
Adhere to CDM 2015 regulations and health and safety requirements in all design work.
Essential:

Strong experience and knowledge of engineering principles, including structures, materials, hydraulics, and environmental engineering.
Understanding of water and sewage treatment principles.
Experience managing and mentoring staff in the design aspects of water and sewage treatment plants.
Membership of a professional institution (chartered or nearing chartership).
Desirable:

Relevant engineering degree (or equivalent).
Minimum of an engineering HND in a relevant discipline.
Ability to rationalize designs and create cost-effective plant layouts.
Good general knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, including mechanical engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering, and project management.
Working knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations and industry standards (BS, WIMES, BSRIA, etc.), as well as HSE regulatory requirements (PUWER, LOLER, PSSR 2000, DSEAR, etc.).
Familiarity with The Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016 (Reg31) and Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) standards.
Ability to assimilate large amounts of data and present technical proposals clearly and convincingly.
Computer literacy and proficiency with design software.
Full driving license.
Desirable Qualifications:

Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
Relevant Engineering Master's Degree.
