Help us to make a world of difference

Urenco is a global leader in the production of low carbon energy. We work at the cutting edge of the transition to a sustainable, net zero world.

We are seeking a Senior Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer to join our team at Urenco’s Almelo site. In this key role, you will lead the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) process, including conducting technical feasibility and Best Available Technology (BAT) studies for a variety of projects across Urenco. As the C&I Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the Conceptual and Basic Design of new facilities or modifications to existing ones, ensuring high-quality outcomes through the direction and oversight of third-party engineering service providers.

Additionally, you will play a vital role in developing and maintaining Urenco’s design standards to meet world-class safety and regulatory requirements. Your expertise will contribute to the development of plant design specifications, asset management strategies, CapEx planning, and safety protocols, enhancing both operational efficiency and safety across the organisation.

At Urenco, we are committed to helping you realise your potential. If you meet most of the requirements but not all, we still encourage you to apply. We value diverse experiences and offer exceptional training and development opportunities, as well as the chance to be mentored by industry-leading professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

Promote Safety Culture:
Foster a proactive safety culture by conducting in-depth analyses and encouraging a continuous learning mindset based on industry experience.
Advanced Plant Design:
Ensure plant designs incorporate cutting-edge safety features that align with industry best practices and insights from the nuclear sector.
C&I Design Engineering:
Lead the evaluation and integration of C&I (automation) design aspects, contributing to feasibility studies, option analyses, and BAT studies.
Conceptual Design:
Deliver high-quality Conceptual Design and Design Specifications with a focus on C&I expertise, ensuring design integrity and alignment with project goals.
Basic Design Packages:
Develop and refine Basic Design packages for Core Plant Technology (CPT) systems, specifically for C&I equipment, ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards.
Project Oversight and Quality Assurance:
Provide direction and oversight in Detailed Design and ensure quality control throughout supplier manufacturing processes, supporting site or project managers in maintaining high standards.
Technical Excellence:
Define and maintain CPT design expertise based on Urenco’s high safety standards and the latest technological advancements, ensuring continuous improvement in design practices.

What You Need to Thrive in This Role:

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Automation, Process Engineering).
Specialist Knowledge:
Recognised as an expert in C&I and automation, with excellent problem-solving skills in complex technical environments.
Proven Experience:
Demonstrable experience in delivering complex FEED and conceptual designs for process facilities, with a strong focus on C&I systems.
Leadership Experience:
A minimum of 3 years in a lead engineer role, with proven ability to oversee and manage design projects.
Modelling and Simulation Skills:
Proficiency in modelling and simulating integrated process systems, both static and dynamic, considering mechanical, electrical, and process requirements.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Abilities:
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to apply past experience to solve complex technical challenges and contribute to organisational learning.
C&I Expertise:
In-depth knowledge of C&I (automation) within the process or nuclear industry, with a focus on system optimisation and troubleshooting.
Data Analysis:
Competency in analysing measurement data from complex process systems to troubleshoot issues, optimise performance, and identify root causes of events.
What We Offer You

Challenging Role with Career Growth:
Take on an exciting role with great opportunities for personal and professional development.
Competitive Salary:
A starting salary between €6,300 and €8,700 gross per month, based on experience.
Work-Life Balance:
Flexible hours, hybrid working options, and 38.5 days of annual leave (full-time).
Attractive Benefits Package:
Includes 8% holiday pay, 4% mid-year bonus, 3% year-end bonus, performance-based bonus, and contribution to collective health insurance.
Sustainability Commitment:
Working towards CO2-neutrality by 2040, with opportunities to contribute ideas.
