Are you an experienced Process Engineer who has had exposure to Battery Manufacturing processes?
-Would you like to join one of the UK’s leading developers of new Battery technology at their state-of-the-art UK Manufacturing facility in the West Midlands?
-Do you want to earn a highly competitive day rate (outside IR35 regulations) on a contract basis?

If your answer is “yes” to these three questions, please kindly read on……..

The Opportunity
Our Client is one of the UK’s leading pioneers in the race to develop and manufacture the latest Battery technology for industry, with an initial primary focus on supporting our ever-growing Automotive manufacturing sector (but not exclusively!), ensuring that there will be a brighter and greener future for us all.

As part of this growth, we are now actively seeking an experienced Process Engineer who has had exposure to Battery Manufacturing processes on a contract basis for a likely minimum duration of 6 months, although there is a chance that this might see extension beyond this term.

On offer to the successful candidate is a highly competitive contract day rate, which falls outside of IR35 regulations?

Reporting to the Lead Process Engineer (Production), you will play a key role in supporting the industrialisation of Automotive and Energy Storage Batteries. Working as part of the Manufacturing Engineering team, you will be responsible for developing, validating, and optimising processes across the entire battery manufacturing value chain — including slurry mixing, electrode coating & drying, cell assembly, formation & testing, and module & pack build.

This role combines practical engineering, process optimisation, and problem-solving with hands-on exposure to pilot and production-scale equipment. You will ensure safe, efficient, and repeatable manufacturing processes while contributing to technology scale-up, cost reduction, and sustainability improvements.

Your duties and responsibilities will be:
Process Development & Optimisation:
Design, implement, and refine production processes across all streams (Mixing, Electrode, Cell Assembly, FA&T, Module & Pack).
Conduct trials, simulations, and process validations to establish robust, repeatable methods.
Analyse production metrics (yield, OEE, cycle time, defect rate) to identify bottlenecks and drive improvement.
Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions, correlating with upstream and downstream processes.
Develop and maintain detailed documentation – SWI’s, PFMEAs, control plans, process flow charts, and specifications.Equipment & Technology Integration:
Commission and validate new equipment, or adapt existing equipment to prototype new methods.
Troubleshoot and recover processes via PLCs, HMIs, or tool management software.
Collaborate with vendors to resolve failures, implement design improvements, and validate modifications.
Assist in selecting, installing, and scaling new production equipment across all streams.Manufacturing Support:
Support daily industrialisation and production activities, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Provide technical expertise and guidance to operations and process technicians.
Monitor process performance and recommend adjustments for improved throughput and cost-effectiveness.
Prepare technical reports, analyse trends, and summarise findings for both internal and customer-facing stakeholders.Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
Work cross-functionally with Advanced & Development Engineering, Operations, Quality, and HSE teams to integrate processes. You will have the following qualifications & experience:
You should be ideally educated to Degree level (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or equivalent, although plenty of relevant experience will be considered.
Should be an experienced Process Engineer who is used to high-volume manufacturing, and who has hands-on exposure to one or more Battery Manufacturing processes (Mixing, Electrode, Cell Assembly, FA&T, Module/Pack).
A strong understanding of manufacturing fundamentals, SPC, lean principles, and quality systems is needed.
You should have experience with equipment troubleshooting, data acquisition, and process optimisation.
Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills are required. It’s great if you also have the following:
Multi-stream exposure across all Battery processes would be excellent.
Familiarity with PLC controls, CAD tools, or automation systems is preferred.
Knowledge of Battery-specific safety and compliance requirements is preferred.
Experience with Six Sigma, DOE, or advanced optimisation tools is a bonus. This position is available with immediate effect.

Why Semiconductor Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

Semiconductors power everything from smartphones to advanced computing to automotive systems. The UK semiconductor industry is expanding amid renewed global interest in chip sovereignty and lithography innovation. But the demands on professionals in semiconductor roles are shifting too. Today, semiconductor careers are no longer limited to clean-room engineers or circuit layout designers. Because chips affect data privacy, critical infrastructure, supply security and performance constraints, careers in this sphere are becoming deeply multidisciplinary. Knowledge in law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design is increasingly relevant to semiconductor engineering. In this article, we’ll explore why semiconductor careers in the UK are becoming more multidisciplinary, how those allied fields intersect with semiconductor work, and what job-seekers & employers can do to adapt.

Semiconductor Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Semiconductor Department

The semiconductor industry underpins nearly all modern electronics—from smartphones and servers to sensors, automotive control systems, artificial intelligence accelerators, and more. In the UK it plays a growing role in chip design, MEMS, optoelectronics, and foundry services. Building performant, reliable, competitive semiconductor products requires tightly coordinated teams that span design, fabrication, testing, packaging, yield engineering, reliability, verification, quality, and supply chain. If you’re applying for semiconductor roles via SemiconductorJobs.co.uk or building a semiconductor team, this guide will help you understand the typical roles, how they collaborate across the product lifecycle, what skills UK employers expect, salary expectations, common challenges, and how to structure teams to succeed.

Why the UK Could Be the World’s Next Semiconductor Jobs Hub

Semiconductors are the tiny silicon devices that power everything from smartphones and computers to electric vehicles, medical equipment, and satellites. As the global economy becomes ever more digital and electrified, demand for semiconductors continues to grow at pace. This translates directly into a rising need for skilled professionals across design, research and development, manufacturing, testing, and supply chain roles. The United Kingdom has a growing semiconductor ecosystem. While the country’s market is smaller than in the United States, EU, or parts of Asia, the UK holds strengths in chip design, intellectual property, research excellence, and advanced packaging. With growing government support, strong universities, and nascent manufacturing infrastructure, the UK is well-positioned to become a global semiconductor jobs hub. This article explores the current landscape, the UK's unique advantages, key job roles, challenges ahead, and what needs to happen for the UK to lead in semiconductor careers.
