THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity for a Process Engineer - Steel and Aluminium Rolling, to join us as part of our Downstream business unit.

You will play a key role in the development of solutions for Steel and Aluminium rolling production routes, including providing support to pre-projects and contracts to ensure a high standard solution is delivered to meet customers' requirements.

Working as a part of the Process and Commissioning team, based in Sheffield, you will have regular contact with colleagues from all functional areas across the wider business, ensuring deliverables are met in all Steel and Aluminium projects.

You will be customer focused, results oriented and have a positive and solution-oriented attitude.

This role includes the opportunity to travel internationally, providing commissioning support on-site when required.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working apply own knowledge and expertise to support and help develop new technologies, auxiliary equipment and processes that will contribute to the growth and expansion our Steel and Aluminium rolling process portfolio.
  • Play an active role in technical bid preparation, providing calculations for process and metallurgical equipment, liaising with internal stakeholders to help determine and optimise equipment and layout configurations.
  • Compile and present pre-project solutions and support to key stakeholders including direct to clients, either remotely or by on-site visits to assist with defined deliverables.
  • Assist in the development of process standards, contribute to and present technical papers at conference and ensure compliance standards are adhered to and met.
  • STEM ambassadorial work, responding to requests for help to interpret material specifications or standards, or analyse a failed metal part.
  • Work within correct health and safety of site personnel standards as applicable.
  • Contribute to the organisation of the production/commissioning schedule, maintenance work, customer acceptance tests and final project handover if required.


DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Working knowledge of process engineering for Steel and Aluminium including manufacturing and materials testing processes and standards, and processing from liquid metal to final coiled products. Ideally in an Engineering related business.
  • An understanding of the project lifecycle from sales through to installation and commissioning.
  • Excellent communication skills for both internal and client facing contact.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and positively. Take an active part in the decision making of the team.
  • Strong organisational skills and an ability to work autonomously, plan own work and prioritise.
  • Good knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Must have current UK Driving License, as well as the right to live and work in the UK and travel internationally without restrictions, if required, occasionally at short notice.

The following are desirable requirements for the position:

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
    • Degree-level study of Ferrous or non-ferrous metallurgy is also desirable
