The Head of Major Projects is responsible for the strategic leadership, planning, and delivery of high-value, complex projects. across the organization. You will governance to project teams as well as working closely with internal stakeholders, clients, and supply chain partners.

This role ensures that all major projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget, and aligned with the organisation’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

•    Develop and implement a major projects delivery strategy in line with the company’s business goals.

•    Contribute to business planning and growth through effective project execution and client relationship management.

•    Oversee the delivery of multiple large-scale process engineering projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality and safety standards.

•    Manage project lifecycle from concept through to commissioning and handover.

•    Implement robust project controls, reporting, and risk management procedures.

•    Ensure compliance with all regulatory, health, safety, and environmental requirements.

•    Lead and develop a team of project managers, engineers, and support staff.

•    Promote a high-performance culture through coaching, mentoring, and continuous improvement.

•    Act as primary point of contact for clients on major projects.

•    Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, and supply chain partners.

•    Take ownership of project budgets, forecasts, and commercial performance.

•    Work with finance and commercial teams to manage contracts, claims, and variations.

Skills & Experience:

•    Proven experience delivering complex capital projects (circa £10m+) in a process engineering or related industrial environment (e.g. chemical, energy, water, pharmaceutical).

•    Strong leadership and team management skills.

•    Deep understanding of project management methodologies (e.g. PRINCE2, APM, PMI).

•    Commercial awareness with experience of contract management (e.g. NEC, FIDIC, JCT).

•    Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

Specific Qualifications 

•    Degree-qualified in Engineering or Project Management (or related discipline).

•    Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional status.

•    Experience in EPC/EPCM project delivery models.

•    Knowledge of digital project tools (e.g. Primavera, MS Project, BIM).

•    SMSTS or equivalent health & safety qualification (desirable).
