Benefits

Structured mentoring from experienced power electronics engineers Training and professional development opportunities Career progression into senior power electronics and technical specialist roles

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated Graduate or Junior Power Electronics Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience designing and developing high-power semiconductor assemblies, controlled rectifier systems, power conversion equipment, and industrial power electronics solutions.

Working alongside experienced engineers, you will support projects from initial concept through design, simulation, testing, and customer acceptance. The role offers exposure to real-world high-power applications used in industries including energy, industrial manufacturing, transportation, marine, and research systems.

This position is ideal for someone with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related discipline who is keen to develop practical engineering skills and build a long-term career in power electronics.

What You'll Be Doing

Design & Development

  • Support the design of power electronic systems including:
  • Controlled rectifiers
  • Thyristor and diode assemblies
  • High-voltage semiconductor stacks
  • Power conversion and protection equipment
  • Assist in the selection and specification of power semiconductor devices.
  • Contribute to the design of snubber circuits, protection systems, and auxiliary circuits.
  • Help develop electrical schematics and technical documentation.

Simulation & Analysis

  • Carry out electrical simulations using tools such as PLECS, LTspice, or similar software.
  • Analyse converter performance, power factor, harmonics, fault conditions, and system behaviour.
  • Assist with thermal calculations and temperature assessments of semiconductor devices and cooling systems.
  • Support the validation of designs against customer and project requirements.

Testing & Validation

  • Participate in prototype assembly, testing, and development activities.
  • Help investigate technical issues and support root-cause analysis.
  • Assist with factory acceptance testing and product validation activities.
  • Support continuous improvement of existing products and designs.

Customer & Project Support

  • Review customer specifications with senior engineers.
  • Support technical discussions and design reviews.
  • Assist in preparing reports, calculations, and project documentation.

What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or expected degree) in:
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Power Electronics
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Power Systems Engineering
  • Or a related discipline

Essential Skills

  • Understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals.
  • Basic knowledge of power electronics and power conversion systems.
  • Familiarity with semiconductors such as diodes, thyristors, IGBTs, or MOSFETs.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and analyse technical data.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Desire to learn and develop within a specialist engineering field.

Desirable Experience

Applications are welcome from graduates, placement students, or engineers with up to 3 years of experience in:

  • Power electronics
  • Industrial electrical systems
  • Power supplies
  • Motor drives
  • Renewable energy systems
  • Electrical design engineering
Exposure to any of the following would be advantageous:
  • PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice, or SPICE-based simulation tools.
  • High-power electrical equipment.
  • Thermal management or cooling systems.
  • Three-phase power systems and transformers.

What You'll Gain

  • Structured mentoring from experienced power electronics engineers.
  • Hands-on experience with high-power semiconductor technologies.
  • Exposure to advanced simulation and analysis tools.
  • Opportunities to work on innovative projects from concept through to testing and delivery.
  • Career progression into senior power electronics and technical specialist roles.
  • Training and professional development opportunities.

Why Join Us?

You will become part of a specialist engineering team working on challenging and technically interesting power conversion projects. This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in an area of engineering that remains critical to industrial electrification, renewable energy systems, advanced manufacturing, and future power infrastructure.

Whether you are a recent graduate or an engineer looking for your next step, we offer a supportive environment where you can learn from experienced engineers while making a meaningful contribution from day one.
