Senior Electronic Engineer – Embedded Hardware – Dundee

I’m working with a global technology business that has a long-established engineering centre in Dundee. Its products are used by banks and retailers worldwide. They’re growing the hardware team and want an experienced Electronic Engineer to design and develop the embedded electronics inside their electromechanical products.

You’ll own designs from schematic through to test, and you’ll stay hands-on at the bench. Within a small, capable team you’ll also mentor junior engineers.

What you’ll be doing

* Designing, developing and testing MCU/microprocessor-based PCB assemblies

* Analogue and digital circuit design, schematic capture and documentation

* Debugging hardware to component level, including SMT soldering

* Writing test specs and reports, and supporting integration and system testing

* Investigating and fixing issues on products already in the field

* Giving effort and schedule estimates to project managers and reporting on progress

* Mentoring junior engineers

What they’re looking for

* Degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or similar (2:1 or above)

* 5+ years developing MCU and/or FPGA-based products

* Experience with USB devices

* Design for EMC compliance

* Solid analogue and digital design fundamentals

* Comfortable running several projects at once

Nice to have

* FPGA design (Verilog/VHDL)

* Cadence Allegro or Altium Designer

* Stepper and DC motor control

* USB compliance testing

* High-speed interfaces (DDR, LVDS)

* Industrial-grade design

* Some software development experience

What’s on offer

* £40,000 – £55,000 depending on experience, plus 7.5% bonus

* 33 days holiday, with the option to buy more

* Defined contribution pension

* Medical and dental insurance, life and income protection

* Health screening, cycle to work, gym and lifestyle discounts

* Real investment in training and career development
