Astute's Power Team is exclusively partnered with our client to recruit for a Shift Operations Technician to join a brand-new Energy from Waste Power Station, which is due to start commissioning phase, in Kelvedon, Essex. The EfW Power Station will process 595,000 tons of waste per annum to generate 55MW of electricity to export to the National Grid.

The crucial Shift Operations Technician roles comes with a salary range of £38,000 - £46,920 (inclusive of shift allowance) + Bonus + Overtime + further education allowances + other benefits.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Shift Team Leader, you will be responsible for:

Using a DCS system you will be required to start, stop and monitor turbines, boilers, pumps, water treatment plant and more.
Working closely with the EPC Team during the commissioning phase of the plant.
Ensuring the plant is operating within its parameters whilst complying with strict HSE rules and regulations as well as company policies and procedures.
Performing plant walk round and daily checks to ensure equipment is operating correctly and efficiently.
Monitoring of continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) and perform corrective adjustments to the process when required.
Providing technical supervision and assistance where necessary for company and contract staff
Working within the company Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality Systems

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

Ideally have an NVQ Level 3 or above qualification in an engineering discipline
A formal health and safety qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH will be desirable

Personal skills, prior experience and knowledge

The Shift Operations Technician role would suit someone who has:

Prior experience working in heavy process engineering environments such as Power (EfW, CCGT, Coal, Biomass, CHP), Petrochemicals, Refineries, Paper Mills, etc.
Knowledge and experience working with steam generation equipment.
Extensive experience working with SCADA/DCS systems.
Ability to work as part of a team and cover for shift staff in times of absence on short notice

A salary banding between £38,000 - £46,920 (DoE and inclusive of shift allowance)
